The council will mostly be focused on inquiring community members about their policy concerns across a variety of areas including education, youth well-being, community health, and access to essential resources, and identifying what local institutions can further provide. Every meeting, we plan on addressing several ongoing issues brought up by the community to ensure that youth perspectives meaningfully shape Nevada’s broader policy landscape. We also encourage everyone to choose a committee aligned with their interests such as education policy, public health, community resources, youth safety, or civic engagement so members can work more deeply on the issues they care about most within the Nevada Youth Policy Council.
In addition, the council functions as a congressional-style simulation, where members draft, debate, and vote on mock bills, resolutions, and acts that reflect real community concerns. After legislation is passed within the council, we aim to turn these ideas into action through organized volunteer efforts and community initiatives, while also encouraging and communicating with Nevada state and local leaders to advocate for real-world policy consideration and implementation across Nevada.

We are asking youth and adults to take initiative and help implement nonpartisan policy changes that address a wide variety of policy areas affecting young people and communities, including issues related to education, health, economic opportunity, community resources, and public safety, with the goal of strengthening long-term outcomes and improving quality of life across Nevada.
